Something about what he said had her clenching her jaw, temper flaring a moment before she restrained it once more, crossing her arms over her chest as she fixed him with a scowl. "I don't care what anyone else says, I know better. What have you done with them, Loki? I need them for tonight."

Actually she wanted nothing to do with tonight. Normally she looked forward to the times when her family was invited to sup with the royal family, but not after the pointed talks she'd been on the receiving end of the past few days from her father. Her mother had not inflicted her with the same, but there had been the subtle comments and hints dropped that Sif thought had not been subtle in the least. But she was too obedient a daughter to rebel over it outright. Her father's anger was something she was used to incurring. Earning his approval was something she'd all but given up on. But it was her mother's quiet disappointment that got to her every time.

She loved her mother more than anyone. She just didn't want to be her.
